How long should you wait to repair your smile?

Maybe a better question is how long are you willing to wait to fix a broken or cracked tooth?

When accidents happen — and they happen more often than most people realize — you don’t want to walk around with a painful, damaged tooth. It’s not comfortable physically or mentally.

The good news is that you can get a CEREC same-day crown at Advanced Dental Center of Florence, SC. With this technology, our caring team of dental professionals can create a dental crown for you in a matter of a few hours.

Putting Technology to Work for Good

Technology has changed our lives in so many ways. We can now carry handheld devices that amount to computers where we can look up anything almost anywhere.

You can probably think of ways that computerized tools have changed your job and your home life as well.

In restorative dentistry, CEREC has been a game-changer for us. More importantly, it’s made tooth repair better than ever for our patients.

With CEREC, we can take a digital impression of your mouth (no biting down on a gag-induced tray filled with goop). That allows us to design your crown to the right shape and size using software in our office.

That effectively acts as a blueprint for our computer-controlled in-house milling machine. This machine turns a cube of porcelain or zirconia into your crown. The crown can then be polished and shaded to match the rest of your smile.

When it’s bonded in place, your looks and feels like another one of your natural teeth.

Saving Time While Saving Your Smile

The old way of getting a dental crown was more complicated and meant more dental visits for you.

After making an impression, a dentist would send that to a dental lab with an order for a crown. Completing this order could take weeks depending on (1) where the lab is located and (2) how many orders that lab received before yours arrived.

While you waited, a dentist would give you a temporary crown. This offered some level of protection for your tooth, but it didn’t function as well as a permanent crown. That also meant running the risk of this temporary crown breaking or coming loose.

Once your permanent crown was ready, you would return to the dentist in hopes that everything fit like it should. If there was a problem with the size or shape, it would have to be returned to the lab.

While it’s rare for one of our CEREC crowns to not fit, it’s also something we can fix for you that same day if needed.
