At the start of the new school year, teachers often take a little time to refresh their students’ memories about the basic knowledge they learned the previous year. This is a good way to get students back into the swing of school.
When it comes to oral health, it’s also good to go over the basics every now and then. Sure, you’ve heard them — brush and floss every day, visit the dentist — but how deep is your dental care knowledge?
At Advanced Dental Center, we often say we want you to “Keep your smile for life.” It’s more than just our slogan. It guides how we treat you and every patient who visits our Florence, SC dental office.
Today, we’ll be giving you a little reminder on the basics of general and family dentistry so you can keep smiling for years to come. Call (843) 588-1919 now to learn more or to schedule an appointment with us.
We hope to see you soon.
Family Friendly Dentistry
When we talk about family dentistry, we mean every member of your family. We treat toddlers and 92-year-olds at our practice, and we offer age-appropriate care no matter where our patients are on life’s journey.
We love to see young children because we can start building relationships with them at an early age. This will help reduce anxiety about dental care as they get older. It also gives us an opportunity to educate them about the basics of good oral hygiene.
These visits are also a good opening for you as a parent to ask us about ways you can help your kids keep their teeth healthy at home.
The first thing is developing good oral hygiene habits.
When it comes to brushing, remember “2 by 2.” Everyone (including the adults) should be brushing their teeth for two minutes, twice per day. Two minutes gives you plenty of time to clean your teeth from all sides to remove as much plaque and bacteria as you can.
You also should be using a fluoride toothpaste (about the size of a pea) and a soft-bristled toothbrush.
You also should be flossing every day as well. Brushing cleans most of your teeth, but flossing is really the best way to remove plaque and food particles from between your teeth.
If dental floss is too tricky for your little ones, consider getting a water flosser instead. These are easy to use and come is a wide range of prices. You can find one that will work for your family and your budget.
We Hope to See You Soon
Of course, you should schedule professional cleanings and exams a couple times each year, too.
One of the things we love about family dental care is we get to build relationships that last for decades with our patients. We get to see them grow up, and we get help them celebrate milestones in their lives.
All these relationships started with their first visits. If you are new to the Florence, SC, we welcome you and your family to get to know us, too. Find out why so many families keep coming back to Advanced Dental Center.
