I got into dentistry because I really love working with science and medicine, and I really enjoy fixing things that just come natural to me. And dentistry has been a great fit with those things that really allows me to work at my best skill set. The most rewarding part about being a dentist is just helping people. And there's no greater satisfaction than to take someone who's having a painful condition and just help them get through that.
I went to dental school in New York at the State University of New York. After graduation, I did advanced training in general dentistry here in Columbia, in South Carolina, where we learned additional, more advanced dental techniques in surgery, implant placement, and other restoration techniques. I have a lot of continuing education experience in dental implants, in mini dental implants, and that has allowed me to take my dentistry to the next level, to help folks better achieve their dental goals.
Dr. John Thomas Hess graduated with honors from Stony Brook University School of Medicine for his doctor of dental surgery degree. He then went on to graduate from the General Practice Residency program at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC. While there, he received advanced training in many aspects of dentistry such as implant dentistry, oral surgery, and cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Hess served in the U.S. Army for eight years as an intelligence officer before he attended dental school.
Dr. Hess and his wife have three children. When not practicing dentistry, he enjoys fishing, biking, and traveling.
