TMJ/TMD

Dental problems like cavities and missing teeth aren’t the only issues our Florence, SC dentists can treat. They can also help relieve chronic jaw pain related to issues with your temporomandibular joints (TMJ). Since TMJ disorders (TMD) can be aggravated by issues ranging from teeth grinding to misaligned teeth, we provide several TMJ treatment options.

Treating your TMJ/TMD will:

  • Eliminate jaw soreness
  • Put an end to headaches caused by TMD
  • Allow you to easily chew your food, yawn, and otherwise use your jaw
  • Relieve TMJ-related pain in your face, ears, and shoulders
  • Stop teeth grinding that may contribute to your TMD issues

Are you suffering from TMJ pain? Call Advanced Dental Center at 843-627-4076 for relief.

Get the Right TMJ Treatment for Your Situation

TMD has no definitive cause. Medical professionals believe many issues can contribute to the painful condition, including arthritis, teeth grinding or clenching, stress, and a misaligned bite. Our dentists will likely suggest starting with the most conservative – and least costly – TMD treatment option: a custom-made mouthguard or splint that gently moves your jaw into a position that relieves pressure on your TMJ. It will also prevent you from grinding your teeth, which can lead to headaches and to dental damage that requires repair with restorative dentistry.

If this doesn’t take care of the problem, they’ll consider altering a misaligned bite with treatments that may include placing dental crowns or possibly orthodontics.

See Us If You Have TMD Symptoms

See our Florence, SC dentists if you suffer from a chronic sore jaw, especially if you’re also experiencing other TMD symptoms:

  • Frequent headaches
  • Difficulty chewing or just opening your jaw
  • Grating sensation when using your jaw
  • Unexplained soreness in your face, especially around your jaw

As with any treatment in our office, you can make appointments as late as 7 p.m. and even on Fridays. You can also enjoy a relaxing neck massage from our certified massage therapist. Concerned about TMJ/TMD? Call 843-627-4076 for a consultation.
