TMJ issues are relatively common. TMJ is short for temporomandibular joint. You have two of these joints, which are located where your lower jaw connects to your skull. These joints allow you to open and close your mouth.

TMJ disorders can be caused by a number of things, including arthritis, injuries, and alignment issues. One of the most common causes of TMJ troubles is teeth grinding, which millions of people do in their sleep.
