For some people, going to the dentist is as easy as going to the grocery store or watching television. It’s just something they do without worries.
For other people, going to the dentist requires facing fears. It’s not easy to get a dental cleaning, much less restorative or cosmetic services, when you are feeling anxious about going to the office.
Our team in Florence, SC, understands how difficult dental visits can be for someone who is afraid of the dentist. It’s also why we have incorporated sedation dentistry into our practice. Sedation can be used alone or along with our comfort options to help you keep calm and get the oral care that you need to keep your smile for life.
Today, we want to discuss some of the important reasons dental sedation could help you or someone you love. You can learn more by calling Advanced Dental Center at 843-627-4076.
You Can Be Pain-Free
Many people worry that their dental care will be painful. This may be because of a previous experience when they were younger. It also could be because you haven’t been to the dentist in a while, so you assume we might find a problem.
It’s true that you are more likely to have a decay or gum disease if you haven’t had a checkup in years. However, it is possible to treat those issues (and many more) painlessly in modern dental practices like ours.
For some people, a local anesthetic is perfect for numbing the affected area. For others, our sedation options provide added assurance that they won’t feel any pain, whether they are getting a cleaning, a filling, or a crown.
You Won’t Gag
It’s no surprise that some people have a more sensitive gag reflex than others. There’s also evidence to suggest some people’s gag reflex becomes more sensitive when they are anxious. Knowing this, we can understand why going to a place where people put things in your mouth could make you feel nervous.
Again, this is a benefit of dental sedation. With either of our sedation options, you can feel confident that you won’t gag during your visit. This will allow you to complete your treatment more comfortably and more easily, too.
You Have Options
At Advanced Dental Center, we offer two kinds of dental sedation.
Oral sedation is administered as medication that you take at home prior to your appointment. You should arrange for someone else to drive you to and from our office.
By the time you are ready, you can feel relaxed and ready. For patients who have a fear of needles, this also helps you avoid the need for that as well.
IV sedation is generally used for more complex treatments. This takes effects quickly, and it is monitored carefully throughout your procedures. This may be used during oral surgery or a dental implant placement.
Find the Solution That Works for You
Many patients use dental sedation when they first visit us. As they get to know us better, many become comfortable getting cleanings and other care without any sedation at all.
