You know that being a parent is hard, but it’s one of the most rewarding things you can do in your life. The feelings you get seeing your children grow and become independent is hard to describe.
Along the way, you also know your kids will need help and encouragement. It’s why you do your best to teach them good habits that they can carry will them throughout their lives.
Since February is Children’s Dental Health Month, we wanted to take a few moments to reiterate the value of good oral health. We hope that will include regular visits to our office in Florence, SC. Family dentistry is a big part of what we do at Advanced Dental Center.

Keep Your Family Free From Cavities
If you’ve been a parent for long enough, you’ve noticed that kids don’t always do what you want them to do. Or, if they do it, they don’t do it in the same way you meant for them to do it.
Brushing their teeth, unfortunately, can be one of those things. You’ve probably had a night where your kids just didn’t want to get ready for bed. Either they were grumpy (because they were tired) or they were preoccupied with something else (like a TV show or a video game). They reluctantly go to the bathroom, but return 30 seconds later, so you know they didn’t really brush.
Kids also are more likely to eat sugary snacks than adults. Sugar can increase their risk of tooth decay, especially if they are only making a token attempt at brushing. That also may explain why 42 percent of kids will have had at least one cavity by their 11th birthdays.
As a friendly reminder, the American Dental Association recommends brushing for two minutes, twice daily. You and your kids should be using a soft-bristled toothbrush with a pea-sized amount of toothpaste with fluoride.
You also should be flossing daily. This is necessary to remove bacteria, plaque, and food particles that are trapped between teeth.
And of course, you should be getting regular professional dental cleanings and exams a few times every year.
Take Advantage Of Our Many Services
Dental professionals can do some things that can’t be done at home. Our team has the tools and the training to remove plaque and tartar buildup from your kids’ teeth. This can stop tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease before it begins.
We also offer dental sealants. These are a special coating that covers teeth. This creates a barrier for bacteria, making it more difficult them to cause decay.
Your family can get fluoride treatments as well. As a mineral, fluoride can help repair minor damage to teeth before decay can set in. Fluoride also can make your kids’ teeth stronger and more resistant to cavities.
